How to see which file types are supported in Jostle

Jostle can store any file format and in most parts of the platform allows the file to be previewed in the Jostle Viewer.

Files that can be previewed in the Jostle viewer

Here are some of the file types that are previewed:

• Images and Vectors: .bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .tif, .tiff, .eps, .ai (recent versions only), .psd, .cr, .cr2, .nef, .gif, .heic
• Video: .3gp, .aac, .avi, .mp4, .mpeg-2, .m4v, .ogv, .webm, .wmv, plus others
• Audio: .aac, .aif, mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .wav, .wma
• Documents: .pdf, .docx, .doc, .docm, .dot, .dotm, .dotx, .odt, .txt (including related file types such as .Json, .css, .log), .xlsx, .xls, .ods, .xlsb, .xlsm, .xla, .xlt, .xltm, .pptx, .ppt, .odp, .pot, .potm, .potx, .pps, .ppsm, .ppsx, .csv, .rtf, .xml, .html, .epub

Notes:

• In areas where animated GIFs cannot be displayed, a static image will be displayed instead.
• Images are converted to different configurations for use across the platform, but downloading from the Jostle Viewer will always return your original file.
• For Excel files, the preview will show what is set up as the "Print Preview" on the Excel side, tab by tab. The thumbnail will be the top portion of the "Print Preview" of the left most tab in the file.
• There is a limitation in IE 11 (which is no longer actively supported by Jostle) that restricts video uploading to files 105MB or less.
• Excel files that include Sheet Protection cannot always be previewed. If the file's security parameters allow"read content", then we are able to provide a preview for the restricted file.
• PPTX Files that include embedded content are previewed, but their embedded content is not included in the preview.

Google and Microsoft Integrated Libraries

If your Library is Google or Microsoft integrated, files will be previewed in the normal manner, except cloud-based files (Office 365 and Google Workspace) will open in the Microsoft or Google viewer.
