Did you know that there are literally dozens of varieties of squash and its vine-based relations?
It's no wonder then, that people came up with a way to separate them all into a couple of distinct groups—specifically, "winter squash" and "summer squash". Now, you would think this simple distinction would be a reference to their harvest times, but that would make too much sense. Instead, “winter” indicates a full-grown squash that can be stored for months before being consumed, while “summer” indicates a squash that has a considerably shorter window of freshness.
So, maybe not the best use of branding there. Personally, I would've gone for something more obvious and straight-forward, like “Super shelf-life squash" and “Better eat ‘em quick squash".
