How to unpin News items in Jostle

What is a Pinned Item?

Pinned Items appear in the banner at the top of the News view until each user reads them. This makes pinning ideal for content you want every new employee to see when they first join the platform.

Pinned Items should be:

  • Geared towards new users. Once a user reads the item, it's removed from their banner automatically.
  • Evergreen and up-to-date. Make sure pinned content stays relevant to new employees — you don't want them reading an expired policy on their first day.

Onboarding guides, company introductions, or platform how-to's are great examples of content worth pinning.

Why should I unpin?

It's easy to accumulate too many pinned items over time. New users see all pinned items when they first log in, so even 3–4 items can fill the banner and push important content out of view. Best practice is to keep no more than 2–3 pinned articles visible to any given user.

Who can unpin News Items?

News Editors can unpin any News Item. Authors can unpin any News Item they published.

How to unpin News Items:

  1. Go to News > Action Menu (three dots) > View Published
  2. On the Published screen, click on the filter icon in the top right corner.
  3. Go to the Pin Settings field and select 'Items that have been pinned'.
  4. Click the Action Menu (three dots) to the right of any item you want to unpin and select Unpin.

How to unpin in bulk:

  1. Go to News > Action Menu (three dots) > View Published
  2. On the Published screen, click on the filter icon in the top right corner.
  3. Go to the Pin Settings field and select 'Items that have been pinned'.
  4. Check off the boxes next to all pinned items you wish to Unpin.
  5. Open the action menu for any highlighted item and select Unpin.
