How to manage discussion categories in Jostle

The left navigation column in the Discussions view is where your Discussion Categories are listed. When you click on a Category, the column to the right of it will populate with all the Discussion within it.

By default, the most recently-active Discussions will appear at the top of each Discussion Category list. You can adjust this by clicking on the Sort icon in the Action Bar at the top of this column. Option are provided to sort the list of Discussion Titles alphabetically, reverse alphabetically, or most-to-least recent.

System Categories

The Discussion Categories are organized into these three groups:

• Discover, which lists Discoverable Discussions that you have not joined, or are not otherwise a Member of.
• My Discussions, which groups all the system-provided Categories for Discussions you are a Member of.
• My Categories, which lists all the personal Discussion Categories that you have created.

The My Discussions grouping provides these Categories:

• All, which is where all Discussions you are a Member of are listed. This includes Org-wide Discussions and Direct Messages.
• Org-wide, which are Discussions that everyone in your organization is a Member of.
• Direct Messages, which lists all your DM's.

The My Categories grouping includes the system-created Uncategorized Category, which contains all Discussions and Direct Messages that you have not assigned to a Category you created.

Managing your Categories

Users can create, rename, organize, and delete personal Discussion Categories, as follows:

To create a Category

1. Click Edit to the right of My Categories in the left column of Discussions
2. Click Add Category in the upper right corner
3. Enter a name for your new Category
4. When finished, click the "X" in the top right corner

To edit a Category name

1. Click Edit to the right of My Categories in the left column of Discussions
2. Click into the existing Category Name and edit it
3. When finished, click the "X" in the top right corner

To reorder your list of Categories

1. Click Edit to the right of My Categories in the left column of Discussions
2. Click-and-hold the up/down arrow icon to the right of the Category's name
3. Drag it to the new position
4. When finished, click the "X" in the top right corner

To delete a Category

1. Click Edit to the right of My Categories in the left column of Discussions
2. Click the “X” to the far right of the Category's name
3. When finished, click the "X" in the top right corner

After deleting a Category, all of the Discussions in that Category will be moved to Uncategorized.

Recategorizing Discussions

There are two ways to move a Discussion to another Category: 

Changing a Discussion's Category from the Action Bar

1. With the Discussion open, open the Action Menu (three dots top right)
2. Click on Set Category from the drop down menu
3. Select the Category you want the Discussion to appear in

Changing a Discussion's Category via Drag and drop

1. Click-and-hold on a Discussion from the Discussion list.
2. Drag it over the Category Name you want to move it to and release it once the Category Name appears outlined in green.
