How to add users without email addresses in Jostle

It's best to use a real email address for each User to ensure full functionality with their Account. However, we understand that there will be situations where this is not possible. Here's how to get those users Jostling...

Creating Users with fake emails as their Username

This method works either via the user CSV import, or by manually creating users at Admin Settings > User Accounts and Data.

To add Users without using a real email address, a System Admin should:

  1. In a systematic way, enter a fake emails for Username (something like First.LastName@noemail.yourcompany.com or Employee123@yourcomany.com).
  2. Create a real 'no_email@yourcompany.com' (or similar) email account and put an automatic reply on it so when people inadvertently email to it they know what is going on.
  3. For WorkEmail enter no_email@yourcompany.com (use this for all Users you are going to invite this way).
  4. Invite these Users to Jostle. This will send an activation email to no_email@yourcompany.com for each User Invited.
  5. Open each of these Invite emails and follow the steps provided to Activate and create passwords for each account. Make note of these details.
  6. Provide each User with their Username (the fake email) and their initial password.
  7. Get each User to sign in and reset their passwords.

To ensure that each User receive Jostle notifications, ask them to:

  • Access their Profile by clicking on their name in the Main Nav Panel.
  • Then click Edit in the top right corner.
  • Enter their personal email address in the Email (personal) field.
  • If they wish, set the visibility of their email to Nobody so that it does not display for other Users in their Profile.
  • Set the Email (personal) field to Make Preferred. 

Note: If you enable the Google sync feature, this may change the data in email fields.
